I was born in Ban Vinai Refugee Camp in Northeastern Thailand. When I was only one year old, my family and I immigrated to the US and Marysville became our new home. As the first in my family to pursue higher education, I received my undergraduate degree from the University of California, Davis. During college, I interned in Washington DC for a quarter and had the opportunity to explore the east coast. One fun fact about me is that I love nature. I enjoy going on hiking trips to see beautiful waterfalls or relaxing at the beach and listening to the ocean waves.

The Upward Bound program has been a special part of my educational journey. As a Chico Upward Bound Alumni, I know first hand how Upward Bound can help students achieve their dreams. I have worked for the Yuba College Upward Bound program for the last 15 years as a Tutor Mentor and a Summer Advisor. I am proud to have become the Director for the Yuba College Upward Bound program in 2017. My vision is to provide all Upward Bound students the tools and resources they need to be successful in college and life.

Hello, my name is Juana Enriquez; I was born and raised in Mexico. I lived in Mexico until 2011, so I attended my high school there. I enjoy nature. I also like to watch movies and I have a pet bunny.  I graduated from Yuba College in 2017 with an associate degree in Business Administration. I am the Upward Bound Clerical Assistant since 2019, and I am happy to work here and excited to start a new semester.

Hello all! My name is Elizabeth Murguia, I was born and raised in Yuba City. I graduated from Yuba City High School in 2016. I am a Trio alumna, low-income, and a first-generation college graduate from UCLA. My college path was as a pre-medicine student, with the ultimate goal of becoming an Emergency Medicine physician. Along my path, I discovered my passion for serving students as they make their path to higher education thus I am excited to continue to serve students as a UB Specialist for Fall 2020! I love to listen to all genres of music. love learning new languages, and am a gym rat #GymFlow.

Hello everyone! My name is Diana Torres and my pronouns are she/her/Ella. I am a first generation latinx student. I am from Marysville, Ca. I graduated from Marysville High School in 2016. I just graduated from UC Santa Bárbara and I am now attending University of Southern California for my masters! Some fun facts about me I love working out and playing sports even though I’m one of the clumsiest people ever. My favorite quarantine activities have been watching tik toks, re-watching the twilight saga and hunger games series, and reading. I also just want to say I’m really excited to begin working with all of you!

I’m from Yuba City, Ca and I attended River Valley High School. I finished high school in three years and immediately started off at a CC. I hope to transfer out to Davis for my bachelors degree. I enjoy the Marvel movies and some of my favorite Avengers are Black Widow and of course, Iron Man.

Hello, my name is Yulisa Castaneda and I am a senior majoring in social work. I believe in being hopeful and valuing culture. Fun fact about me is that I have lived in Mexico, Seattle, and in Hawaii.

My first goal for this semester is to be able to connect with the students from Upward Bound. My second goal for this semester it to be able to take what I learn as an intern and be able to apply to my future jobs. My last goal is to be able to take what I am learning from my classes and apply it to my internship .

I grew up in Yuba City and graduated from River Valley High School, Class of 2019. I now am in my second year of college at the University of California, Los Angeles. While I am virtually attending classes, I am happy to be back home to support graduating seniors in the scholarship application process! I enjoy roller skating, yoga, listening to music, social media, reading, and exploring the city. I am interested in social justice and am considering studying law in the future.

My name is Amandip Chauhan and I recently graduated from River Valley High School. I participated in the Yuba College Upward Bound Program for all four years of high school and am excited to be back to help Upward Bound students! The resources and guidance that the program provided helped me strive for greatness, although I was faced with obstacles as a first-generation college. I look forward to helping students with whatever they need, from tutoring in any subject to sharing personal experiences and advice. 

I am a big sports fan and lakers fan. The Lakers won their 17th championship title this year after a ten-year finals drought. Hope that the kings can overcome their playoffs and finals drought for all their northern California fans. In my free time, I enjoy volunteering wherever there is a need in the community, such as local food banks and non-profit organizations such as the Jakara Movement.
